Our Friends of Stow Minster organisation is being updated and will be relaunched on 13th June 2026 with an evening lecture given by Dr Johanne Porter, Collections Development Officer (Museums) for Lincolnshire Archives. The Friends of Stow Minster aims to keep people informed of the building, the work to restore and re-order it, and to support, utilise and develop the Anglo-Saxon Minster Church of St Mary, Stow. Membership of the Friends will be by annual subscription/ donation. To express your interest in becoming a Friend ahead of our formal launch please send an email to David via our email: friendsofstowminster@gmail.com We intend to send a couple of newsletters each year – our first will be Spring 2026 with information about recent activities at Stow and the developing plans for the launch event.
Twenty eight folk, including local villagers and representatives of Lincolnshire organisations, gathered at the Cross Keys on 22nd January 2026 to explore possible developments at Stow Minster. Amongst the many valuable points made, the Lincoln Archaeology Group reported on plans to undertake a range of activities within the village that would include community participation with archaeology projects. The re-opening of Lincoln Museum later in the year will include viking artifacts from Stow. Ideas for including more community based events within the minster – perhaps a Mediaeval Banquet – were suggested, and ways to encourage more tourism and pilgrimage to the locality. The health benefits of a cool space in summer was recognised in this era of global warming, though the challenges of heating the building in the cooler months were not forgotten. A fuller account of the meeting will be included in our Spring Newsletter
